Welcome to the Korea FAO Association Website

FAO was established as a specialized agency of the United Nations in October 1945 and aims to raise levels of nutrition, improve agricultural productivity and the lives of rural people. Korea was admitted to membership of FAO at the fifth session of the Conference and received considerable assistance from FAO in dealing with food shortages and malnutrition after the Korean War.

In 1951, the sixth session of the Conference adopted a resolution to establish National FAO Committees to coordinate the participation of member countries in the activities of FAO. However, the set-up of the Committee had been delayed in korea due to the outbreak of Korean War, and only in 1957, Korea FAO Association was founded not as a governmental organization but as a private nonprofit organization to facilitate the participation of the private sector in the FAO's works.

Korea's international status has dramatically improved from a once recipient country to a fully recognized as a donor country. Korea served as a chair of the FAO Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific from September 2010 to March 2012 and has been elected as a Council Member for nine consecutive terms. The unique transformation history enables Korea to act as a bridge between the developed and developing nations and Korea is actively working to fulfill its roles. In parallel, KFA is also endeavoring to enhance its knowledge sharing functions and participate in FAO meetings such as Conferences, Councils and Regional Conferences.

KFA has successfully hosted numerous international meetings including the 30th FAO Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific and the First Trilateral Agricultural Ministers' Meeting. Particularly, we were able to contribute to establishing strong mutual partnerships among experts from public, private and academic sectors by annually organizing the Asia Pacific Agricultural Policy Forum since 2002.

Our priority goal is to strengthen the relationship between the Korean government and FAO and to actively promote international exchanges and cooperation in the agriculture and fisheries sectors.

We thank you for the constant interest and support, and look forward to a more fulfilling relationship.
